DIY Screen Cleaner

screen cleanerFirst, you might be asking yourself, “Can’t I just use Windex  to clean my screens?” And the answer is … no. Not if you want streak-free, healthy screens. Windex contains chemicals that are harsh for delicate LCD/plasma screens, and will leave behind residue on their unique surfaces.

So, here is a two ingredient DIY screen cleaner.

Ingredients:
• 1/2 cup distilled water
• 1/2 cup rubbing alcohol

Directions:
• Combine water with alcohol, and in a spay bottle.
•  Shake the mixture before spraying.

Tips:
• Don’t use paper towels to wipe your screens (or any delicate glass like glasses lenses, etc.). Paper towels are scratchy, and they’ll leave behind little nicks in your screen if you’re not very careful. Only use microfiber cloths.
• Never spray directly on a screen or other electronic device. Why? Because you’ll end up with water dripping into places where it DOES NOT BELONG. Always spray on the cloth first and then wipe. No drips. No fried electronics.
• Only use distilled water for screen cleaning recipes – never use tap or “regular” bottled water. Tap and bottled water contains all sorts of minerals and other chemicals that will leave behind deposits and junk on your screen. Even filtered water doesn’t remove all the heavy metals and minerals you want to avoid. Distilled water is pure and lacking anything that will eventually lead to build-up or a mucky screen.

• 1/2 cup water
• 1/2 cup alcohol
• 15-25 drops of essential oil of your choice (Lily of the Valley is my favorite).

Directions:
• Combine water with alcohol, and add essential oil in a spay bottle.
•  Shake the mixture before spraying.

Cold and Congestion Rub

It’s that time again- cold and flu season.
No matter how careful we are, at some point we’re all exposed to some form of it. The throaty cough, the sinus pressure, the chest congestion.Yuck. I’m not a fan.
Luckily, there’s a simple home remedy that you can whip up in minutes to help fight off the symptoms.
Just a few ingredients and you’ll have a homemade version of vapor rub that will have you breathing easier in no time!

Ingredients:
• 1/4 cup Coconut Oil
• 1 teaspoon Bee wax (optional)
• 1/4 tsp Peppermint Essential Oil
• 1/4 tsp Lemon Essential Oil
• 1/4 tsp Tea Tree Essential Oil
• 1/2 tsp Eucalyptus Oil

Directions:
• Begin my melting down the coconut oil and bee wax if using. You can do this by popping the bowl in the microwave and heating on high for about a minute (or until all solid pieces of the oil have melted seamlessly into liquid).
• Next, stir in the essential oils. You can adjust the amounts that I used to suite your preference, but I found that the amounts listed above yielded the vaporizing aroma and effect that I was aiming for. Be sure the stir well so that each essential oil is evenly blended into the mixture.
• Carefully transfer the mixture into a lidded jar and allow to cool completely before use. The liquid will solidify as it cools resulting in a firm, white mixture that will melt with body temperature when massaged into skin.

Directions for use: You use as a relaxing chest rub. Can be applied directly on the nose & lips for a more concentrated smell. Breathe deep, and feel better!

Rosemary Body Lotion

Rosemary body lotion siteA little grease can be good in your car or your kitchen, but it certainly doesn’t belong on your skin. This therapeutic lotion packs a lightweight formula that’s free of both paraben and petrol, so it won’t clog your pores and produce a greasy residue. It’s also enriched with a host of essential oils, which leave skin smooth, hydrated, and superbly scented.

Ingredients:
•3 TB spoons beeswax
• 3 TB spoons coconut oil
• 2 teaspoon chamomile water

• 1 tablespoon vegetable glycerin
• 8 drops of rosemary essential oil
• 6 drops of vitamin E

Directions:
• Place  coconut oil and beeswax in a heat proof container.
• Place the container  over a pot of boiling water for a makeshift double boiler, melting coconut oil and beeswax.
• Take off the heat.
• Add chamomile water, vegetable glycerin, rosemary essential oil, and vitamin E.
• Stir.
• When it’s blended and creamy (it will thicken cooling) pour it into sterilized containers.
Leave to cool.
• Close.

• Keep in the fridge.

 

 

Lip Balm

lip balm siteI am a sucker for soft lips, so I just had to do a perfect lip balm recipe round-up for you. If you love the feeling of moisturized lips, you’re definitely going to want to try this amazing homemade lip balm recipe — enjoy!

Ingredients:
• 3 grams cocoa butter
• 3 grams beeswax
• 6 ml almond oil
• 3 drops orange essential oil
• 1 drop vanilla essential oil
• 1.5 grams honey
• 1 drop Vitamin E
• 0.5 grams Pro Vitamin B5

Directions:
• Melt together all the ingredients.

DIY Lip Scrub

DIY Lip Scrub siteIt may sound silly, but I feel a little self-conscious when my lips are peeling.  Anyone else feel that way?

Here is the recipe of my favorite lip scrub.

Ingredients:
• 1 part honey
• 1 part brown sugar
• 1 part olive oil (other great oils would be jojoba, almond, or even coconut oil)

Directions:
• Mix all ingredients together.
• Apply a small amount to lips.
• Rub gently into lips for a few seconds or up to two minutes.
• If time allows, let the mixture remain on lips for a minute or two.
• Wipe off gently with a warm, damp cloth.
• Store the excess in a closed container in the fridge.
• Enjoy your smooth, soft, healthier lips!

Toasted Hazelnut Body Lotion

Hazelnut Body LotionMoisturizing body lotion doesn’t need to be greasy or expensive, you can control the ingredients and save a lot of money by making it in yourself at home.

Ingredients:
• 3 Tb spoons hazelnut oil
• 2 Tb spoons beeswax
• 6 drops vitamin E
2 TB spoons rose water
• 1 Teaspoon vegetable glycerin
• 8 Drops of rosemary essential oil

Directions:
• Place  hazelnut oil, and beeswax in a heat proof container.
• Place the container with the oils over a pot of boiling water for a makeshift double boiler, melting hazelnut oil and beeswax.
• Add vitamin E.
• Mix well.
• Take the pot off the heat.
• Add rose water, vegetable glycerin, and rosemary oil.
• Stir.
• When it’s blended and creamy (it will thicken cooling) pour it into sterilized containers.
Leave to cool.
• Close.

• Keep in the fridge.

 

Cleopatra Milk Bath

Cleopatra Milk Bath siteThis is a super-easy milk bath recipe that’s great for dry, itchy skin.

Ingredients:
• 1 liter of milk
• 5 TB spoons almond oil
• Bathtub full of warm water

Directions:
Fill in your bath with water.
• Add  milk and almond oil.
• Lie back and relax.

Milk removes dead skin cells and softens skin. It also nourishes and smooths, so it’s especially good for dry skin or skin that seems to have lost its vitality.

One point about fat: The higher the fat content of the milk, the more nourishing it is for you skin. This is one time when Low Fat is NOT your best bet.

Almond Body Lotion

Almond Body Lotion siteComing out of the bath or shower, hold moisture in the skin by spreading on your Almond Body Lotion.

Ingredients:
20 g  shea butter
• 10 g almond oil
• 3 g of vegetable glycerin
• 35 g of rose water
• 6 drops vitamin E
• 4 drops rose essential oil

Directions:
• Place shea butter, almond oil, and vegetable glycerin in a heat proof container.
• Place the container with the oils over a pot of boiling water for a makeshift double boiler, melting your oils.
• Slowly pour the rose water water into the mixture. Keep stirring  until it’s all incorporated.
• When it’s blended and creamy, add vitamin E and rose essential oil.
• Transfer to sterilized containers.
Leave to cool.
• Close.

• Keep in the fridge.
